Becoming the Future Version of Yourself
Apr 29, 2025
I spent a long time trying to grow into the best version of myself…
But at one point, I had to get honest and ask… How long would I let the current version of myself hold me back?
I used to label myself an “overthinker.”
I’d joke about paralysis by analysis like it was a badge of honor… always researching, always waiting for the “perfect” solution, overloading myself with other people’s opinions… until the urgency disappeared and I slid right back into my comfort zone.
I know the cycle because I lived it.
I used to think I could just figure everything out on my own. And technically, I could… and so can you. But I’ve learned that saving money doing it yourself has a cost, too.
When I was preparing to launch my cash-based PT clinic, I almost set my rate at $60/hour.
Why?
Because I was making $50/hour working PRN shifts at a nursing home, and I figured giving myself a $10 raise was progress.
That’s how “Current Me” saw pricing… trading time for money, just a little more of it.
Fortunately, I had someone with experience in the cash-based realm tell me, “Pick a number that feels uncomfortable and go with that.” So I bumped it to $90/hour. It wasn’t where I should’ve been, but it was a step forward and immediately made me 50% revenue simply by borrowing their value belief.
They were living in a Future I wanted to make my way towards.
Now I can’t help but wonder:
What would’ve happened if I’d actually committed to mentorship with that person instead of just listening to one helpful sentence?
I’ll never know for sure, but I do know that experience shaped how I make decisions now.
It’s not uncommon to speak with PTs who are still charging $90-100 per session, because that’s what they think their work is worth, or it matches the cash visit rate from the insurance clinic they worked at.
But then I see people like one of my recent clients, who sold his first in-person cash plan of care at an average of $214 per visit.
He didn’t get lucky. He made the decision to show up as Future Him, not the version who would’ve settled for $125.
That’s the difference.
If you want to be the version of you who confidently charges based on value, navigates sales conversations with ease, knows how to tie your in-person and virtual offers together, and makes quick, clear decisions…
Then you have to start acting like that version now.
For me, that meant learning to move fast. To see mentorship as a multiplier. To trust that investing in myself was less risky than staying stuck.
Because I’ve been stuck. I’ve been hesitant to make moves. And I’ve learned that lesson.
So I’ll ask you the same question I once had to ask myself:
Is the “Current” version of You holding you back?
