Bad Online Business Advice
Feb 11, 2026I saw the most terrible advice floating around on the internet recently…
“Use ChatGPT to build a program. Charge $49/month. Do a weekly calls. Congrats, you’ve got an online business.”
Nope. That’s definitely not how it works…
That is however great advice if you want to burn time, waste energy, and start resenting the whole idea of going online.
That kind of offer structure (low ticket memberships) typically only works if you’ve already got a massive audience, a full content machine, and a way to keep hundreds of people engaged every month.
Most people looking to go online… dont…
And that’s not a knock… that’s just where you’re at right now.
So when you launch your $49/month thing to 800 followers and hear crickets…
It’s not because you suck.
It’s because the over-simplification of that model was built for someone in a completely different stage of business.
And the problem with advice like this is it makes sense… so you think “ok, that could work…”
But it neglects what you’d really need to be successful with a low ticket model.
You need volume, an audience, and constant promotion to grow at a rate where the revenue would be even worth your time…
And if you’re lucky… maybe clear $200/month.
That’s why I don’t recommend starting there.
Here’s what I’d do instead… (that can actually work for you)
If you’re in-person right now and trying to build something online, or even thinking about it, start with a mid to high-ticket offer.
Something $300–$1000/month that you can confidently deliver (yes, we have clients delivering online offers close to $1000/mon)
Using numbers that would actually be worth it…
Finding 100 clients would be difficult, but finding 10… that would be MUCH more attainable.
You can hit $10k/month with 20 solid clients at $500/month.
That’s do-able even if you’ve only got 1,000 followers.
This is why we teach the Blended Practice Model.
Take what’s already working in-person, package it up and deliver it virtually.
You build proof of concept, get paid, and grow the online side in a way that actually will yield results.
So yeah, the $49/month thing looks good on paper.
But it’s probably gonna cost you more than it makes.
And it’ll leave you wondering if this whole “online thing” is even worth it.
It is.
You just need a better starting point.
